Apple announced touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro models on October 28, with U.S. starting prices of $2,899 for 14 inches and $3,399 for 16 inches. Preorders are open; deliveries and store availability are due November 6. (Apple, 2026)

The machines use M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, with configuration options reaching 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage. Those maximum capacities are not the starting configurations. (Apple, 2026)

Apple specifies tandem OLED panels with adaptive refresh rates of 10–120Hz and peak brightness up to 2,000 nits. These are manufacturer specifications; this report includes no independent display or battery measurements. (Apple, 2026)

Ars Technica’s Samuel Axon described about five minutes with a showroom unit, using gestures and moving files. He liked the display but found many operating-system interactions duplicated trackpad functions. These are brief impressions, not controlled measurements. (Axon, 2026)

Software timing matters: Apple says macOS translates touches into clicks for existing apps, while its footnote places listed third-party app updates later this year. That distinction prevents promised optimization from being mistaken for universal launch-day support. (Apple, 2026)

Editorial Opinion

A touchscreen earns its place when it makes actual work easier. The useful tests will be sustained display brightness, color accuracy, touch precision, comfortable reach and battery life under real workloads. A launch demonstration cannot settle those questions. Before paying for the new display, buyers should look for independent tests of the exact configuration and confirmation that their essential applications support the interactions they need.
